Aqua Cremation

Aqua Cremation is a gentle and responsible alternative to flame cremation that allows you to honor the loss of your companion without harming the environment.

Aqua Cremation uses a water-based alkaline solution in replace of fire. This cutting-edge process mimics the way a body naturally decomposes in soil. It is nature’s method of decomposition, simply accelerated.

Benefits for the Environment

  • Zero emissions of harmful greenhouse gasses
  • Low energy consumption
  • 1/10th of the carbon footprint left by cremation

Benefits to You

  • A gentler, more holistic method compared to flame cremation
  • A larger amount of your cherished pet's remains returned to you
  • The most environmentally responsible way to honour the life of your pet

How It Works

The Aqua Cremation process uses 95% water and 5% alkali. The alkali used in this process are the same alkali used in common cosmetic products, body washes, shaving creams, and even food preparation.

By the end of the process, all alkali ingredients have been completely used; no traces remain in the water. Producing zero gaseous emissions, Aqua Cremation is the most Earth-friendly way of honoring your beloved pet.

Not only is it the ultimate substitution for fire cremation, it is also the ideal alternative to burial, which contributes to methane gas emissions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Aqua Cremation

What actually happens?

With alkaline hydrolysis, an individual body is gently placed in a container that is then placed in a clean, stainless steel vessel. A combination of water flow, temperature and alkalinity are used to accelerate the natural process of tissue hydrolysis. At the end of the process, the body has been returned to its normal form, dissolved in the water. The only solid remains are the mineral bone remains.

Is the body dissolved in acid?

No, alkaline hydrolysis uses a catalyst called alkali, which is the chemical opposite of an acid.

What is the impact of the water usage?

The Aqua Cremation process uses less water than a single household uses in one day.

Are the alkali's used in Aqua Cremation safe for the environment?

Yes! In fact, only 5% of the solution is alkali, the rest is simply water. At the end of the 20 hour Aqua Cremation process, all of the alkali solution has been used up.

What happens to the fluid/water?

Our water is returned back to nature via the water treatment plant, where it is purified, filtered and recycled back to the earth. In essence, your pet is recycled without causing harm to our environment!

Are the powdered bones that I receive from the Aqua Cremation safe to handle?

They are totally safe. In fact, they are 100% pathogen and disease free.

Can my pet's favorite toy or blanket be aqua cremated along with it?

Aquamation is only an acceleration of what Mother Nature does. Consequently, only 100% organic items can be included in the actual process — special food treats, flowers etc. are all fine. We suggest that toys or pieces of a favorite blanket be placed in the urn. We are also happy to keep toys or blankets with your pet until the actual process. We will then return them to you.
